The Fulton Lions Club is proud to once again join Fulton’s Service Clubs as part of Memorial Day Salute.
The Fulton Lions Club is part of Lions Club International (LCI), which was founded by Melvin Jones in 1917. It is the largest service club in the world with over one million members in more than 170 countries. The Fulton club, with 30 members, was chartered in 1953 and is one of the largest and most active Lions clubs in Central New York.
Lions Clubs are committed to the preservation of sight and hearing. The Fulton Lions Club provides financial assistance for those in need of eyeglasses, eye exams and hearing aids. During the past year, the Fulton club has provided over $10,000 in sight and hearing assistance.
In addition, the Fulton club collects used eyeglasses for refurbishment and redistribution at Fulton Walmart, Fulton Medicine Place and other local businesses. The Fulton club also supports the Guiding Eyes for the Blind program that trains Seeing Eye dogs for the blind, and the Finger Lakes Lions Hearing Foundation.
Among other community and charitable organizations that receive support from Fulton Lions are Aurora, Blessings in a Backpack, Catholic Charities and Salvation Army food pantries, Friends of Great Bear, Fulton Blockbuilders, Fulton Pop Warner, Fulton Family YMCA, Fulton Youth Hockey, Golisano Children’s Hospital, Oswego County Visually Impaired Group, United Way Stone Soup & Stuff a Bus, and the Upstate Center for Vision Research. The Fulton club also offers four-year college scholarships to G. Ray Bodley High School graduates through its H. and Mary Dowd Memorial Scholarship and John Scaringi Scholarship programs.
To support these many worthwhile projects in Fulton, the club holds several fundraising events each year. Among these are the Lions Loot Sweepstakes, Memorial Day Salute, Fulton Service Clubs Swing 4 Service Golf Tournament, Charby’s Duck Derby and the Mane Event Comdey Night.

The motto of Lions Club is “We Serve” and the slogan is “Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation’s Safety.” We honor these words by participating in the Fulton Memorial Day Salute and saluting our nation’s active duty troops and veterans who have fought and served to bravely defend our freedom.
