Larry Macner 2017 Veteran of the Year

Lawrence was born on January 1954, in Utica, New York. His career with the U.S. Air Force includes 6 years of Active Duty, starting in 1973, and 22 years with the N.Y. Air National Guard, starting in 1986, for a total of 28 years. His rank at discharge was Master Sergeant (E-7) His military occupational specialty was as a Jet Engine Technician and as a Quality Assurance Technician. As a technician, he performed jet engine maintenance on both fixed (FB-111A, F-4C, T-33, A-10, and F-16) and rotary wing (UH-1N and CH-3E) aircraft. He received his technician training at the Jet Engine Mechanic school at Chanute Air Force Base, Illinois. His duty stations include Plattsburgh AFB, NY; Keflavik Naval Air Station, Iceland; Andrews AFB, Maryland. During his tenure with the N.Y. Air National Guard, he was deployed to several bases around the world including: Volk Field, Wisconsin; Patrick AFB,Florida; Nellis AFB,Nevada; Cold Lake Air Base, Alberta Province, Canada; Gander Field, Newfoundland; Lechfeld Air Base, Germany; Incirlik AFB, Turkey (Operation Northern Watch); and Al Kharj (Operation Desert Storm)/Prince Sultan (Operation Southern Watch) Royal Saudi Air Base, Saudi Arabia. Awards and recognition while in service include the Meritorious Service Medal, 2 Commendation Medals, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and many others for a total of 17 Federal Service Ribbons. In addition to his career with the U.S. Air Force, he also has 35 1/2 years total with the U.S. Postal Service. After retiring from the military in 2008, has served as the 6th Ward Common Councilor, City of Fulton, NY, a position he has held since January of 2012. In May 2016, he was inducted into the N.Y. State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame. He was also selected to receive Fulton, N.Y.’s Veteran of the Year Award, which will be presented to him during a ceremony held on November 11, 2016.
